If you are looking at something that has a few parts, like a lamp, notice the shape created by the lampshade and the base. Select one object and trace its outline with your eyes. Don’t worry about the patterns or details of the item, just focus on the shape of the object. Every object that you are looking at is creating positive space. Positive space refers to the shape of an object. These terms define the shape of an object as well as the space around it.
